Pelican Pete Online Slot Machine Review
Aristocrat is a casino slots developer and provider which has created many land based slot machines available for play at many casinos throughout the world. The developer is also present in the virtual casino gaming world and most of its land based slots have their own online counterparts. I can say the same thing for Pelican Pete, a 5 reel 50 pay-line video slot that made its move onto the online gaming industry more than 15 years ago. At first look, the game has a bit outdated graphics, but it’s based on a sea-faring theme which I really like so I will surely be spinning its reels on the web. As the name of the slot suggests, it is a game pertaining to water and indeed the reels of the slot are set against a view of an ocean at sunset which is glowing under a purple sky. It feels quite chilling and relaxing!
Outdated by Charming
The video slot was created using the top graphics of the time. Nowadays they look a bit outdated for my taste, but Pelican Pete still retains its charm for some reason and it’s quite appealing for slot fans such as myself. The low value symbols i.e. the playing card symbols are, of course, part of the slot and they generally pay 5 to 50 coins. The high value symbols that pay out better amounts are the pelican, the starfish, treasure chest, anchor and the fish icons. They are generally worth payouts of between 10 and 75 coins. If you manage to get five Sunset symbols on an active pay-line you win a jackpot of 100 coins.
Regarding the betting range of the slot, the line bet starts from $0.25 per line and goes all the way up to $10. This means that the min and max bets are $0.25 per pay-line per spin and $500 a spin respectively. Find out more about betting with bitcoins.
Wild, Scatters, Free Spins and a Gamble Feature
As a big slot fan I expect to find more or less the same slot features before I play a new game. Therefore, I was expecting to find wild and scatter symbols as well as free spins in Pelican Pete slot as well. The wild symbol in the game is, of course, the pelican with a mouth full of golden coins. This icon appears only on the third, fourth and fifth reels and whenever it shows up it will try to substitute itself for another symbols and form winning combinations. However, it cannot substitute for the scatter icon.
The scatter, on the other hand, is represented by the lighthouse. It shows up on the third, second and third reels and when three of them appear, you get a 2 coin payout. As I was expecting, the lighthouse scatter activates the free spins bonus round when three or more of them appear on the screen.
Once activated, you will be given 10 free spins. During the bonus round, if a wild symbol appears, it will remain stuck for the rest of the free spins. The sticky wilds will also act as prize rewards icons if a scatter symbol shows up below them. There is also the possibility to re-active the free spins. Pelican Pete also has a gamble feature which can double or quadruple your original winnings.
The slot is definitely a trip down memory lane and shows what it was like playing slots over a decade ago. But I don’t find it boring to play and the theme is quite relaxing. Moreover, it is packed with generous features and once triggered they can greatly boost your pocket money. However, as a high variance slot, it can give you big wins but you have to be patient and hope to activate the free spins bonus round and get a couple of sticky wilds. Lastly, I didn’t find the Return to Player percentage of the slot listed, but from experience I can tell that it’s around 95%.
